Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQ 's
What
is airbrush tanning? Airbrush tanning is the latest form of tanning to hit the tanning industry and has increased in popularity thanks to the enthusiastic interest of Hollywood celebrities. Airbrush tanning is done with a handheld airbrush gun that sprays a light mist of sunless tanning solution on the body that offers superior coverage. The process is formulated to work with the body's chemistry(amino acids and proteins)to darken the skin and then fade gradually over time. A suger beet derivative oxidizes the skin in much the same way that a peeled apple browns when exposed to the air. The process takes anywhere from 2-24 hours to completely develop and can last an average of 5-7 days. How long has airbrush tanning been around? Airbrush tanning has been around for a few years mostly in the Hollywood scene with many celebrities using this method in the course of their profession. Since 1999 it has emerged into the market for the everyday tanner. The hand held version was developed to create a sunless tan with superior coverage. The DHA solution that is applied to the skin is a solution derived from sugar beet. It is NOT a dye. When the DHA comes in contact with the top layer of the skin, it reacts with the amino acids of the skin and creates a natural looking tan just like the sun without damaging the skin making it completely safe and healthy. DHA or dihydroxyacetone is the main ingredient in the tanning solution. It is derived from the center of the sugar beet and is a natural product. DHA has been around since the 1920's and was approved by the FDA in the 70's as completely safe for cosmetic use. It is not a dye. It is a simple sugar and is non-toxic and was discovered in the 1950's at Children's Hospital at the University of Cincinati. What do I have to do before I tan? It is recommended that before tanning, you should exfoliate your skin well. It is best to use a good salt scrubb (Spray Tan of America has these products available for purchase). Do not wear any lotions, makeup, deodorants or perfumes. It is best to wear loose dark clothing if possible and if not avoid anything light colored. Since the solution is water soluable it will wash out of your clothing. You should use moisturizers or after tan products on a daily basis to help maintain your tan. We recommend a lotion that contains Shea butter or Coco butter. This will help in preserving the tan. However you must understand that the natural process of the epidermis of the skin is to transition every 5-10 days. This process occurs regardless of tanning in a bed, under the sun or using airbrush tanning. Since the body is constantly exfoliating itself on a daily basis it is recommended that you get re-sprayed every 5-7 days in order to maintain an even tan. Always exfoliate before every tanning session. Also note that getting sprayed more than once a week is not advised as the solution will build up and create blotchiness. Excessive spray tanning does not give you a darker tan. Does tanning protect me from the sun? NO! Not entirely. According to Dermatologists, airbrush tanning only offers an SPF 4. It is recommended that a sunscreen or a sunblock be used anytime you go out into the sun. The application process takes approximately 10-15 minutes and is applied by one of our Certified Spray Technicians (CST). Our solution developed exclusively for us provides instant gratification through the bronzing ingredient. The tanning process starts approximately 2 hours after the application and continues for up to 24 hours for the best and complete tan. You can shower after 4-6 hours. However, during showering what you see washing off is not the tan, just the bronzer. Don't worry, the tan will continue to develop without the bronzer. Absolutely! The active ingredient in the spray solution is DHA, which is derived from the sugar beet and is deemed safe by the FDA. What is the advantage of airbrush tanning? According to Consumer Reports magazine (February 2005 issue) an article titled "Spray-on Tanning, A BETTER WAY TO BROWN" states that people who want the bronzed look without the radiation should spray tan. People with sensitive skin or those who are unable to tan at all through other conventional methods have had very positive results with spray tanning. One application of a spray tan is equal to 5 tanning bed sessions, making spray tanning cost effective too. It is safe and free of skin damage. What is the cost of airbrush tanning?
